In their statement, prisoners stressed that the death penalty in Iran is no longer a form of punishment but an “organized crime” and a systematic violation of the right to life. They condemned the recent death sentence issued against political prisoner Karim Khajasteh in Lakan Prison, Rasht, and reported that at least 95 people, including two women, were executed in the past week alone. According to their data, more than 200 executions were recorded in the first 17 days of the month of Azar.
The statement emphasized that the purpose of the widespread use of executions is to intimidate society and suppress public protest and uprisings. Prisoners reiterated their commitment to peaceful resistance and collective hunger strikes as a form of protest against the continuing wave of executions.
