The inhumane punishment of amputating four fingers from the right hand of Mohsen Ashiri, a Bakhtiari prisoner from Zazaran and resident of Isfahan, was carried out on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 (8 Mehr 1404), at Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan.

According to Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Ashiri — also known as Mohsen Larazbakhsh Falavarjani, aged 37 — was arrested six years ago on charges of “theft” and sentenced by the Isfahan Criminal Court to six months in prison and amputation of four fingers on his right hand.

After completing his prison term, he was released with the plaintiff’s full consent and after posting a 1-billion-toman bail.

However, in September 2025, the court suddenly summoned him again, demanding a 200-billion-toman bail and warning that the amputation sentence would be carried out if unpaid. Unable to afford the exorbitant amount, Ashiri was rearrested and transferred to Dastgerd Prison, where the sentence was executed less than a month later.

This punishment was implemented despite the plaintiff’s prior written pardon and declaration of forgiveness, making the act a shocking violation of both human dignity and Islamic principles of clemency.
