Statement by the Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran
The Women’s Committee of the NCRI has raised alarm over the deteriorating conditions of female prisoners in Iran, particularly political prisoner Somaieh Rashidi, who is currently in critical condition at Qarchak Prison in Varamin.
On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Rashidi was transferred to Mofatteh Hospital in Varamin after repeated seizures and severe delay in medical treatment. Doctors reported her level of consciousness at below 5 and described her condition as “critical.” Prison officials had long ignored her urgent medical needs.
On Friday, September 19, Jamileh Azizi, a prisoner convicted of financial charges and mother of two, died in Qarchak Prison after showing symptoms of a heart attack. Despite her critical state, she was returned to her ward from the infirmary without proper treatment.
Earlier, on September 12, Maryam Shahraki, another prisoner with financial charges in Fardis Prison in Karaj, complained of severe chest pain. The prison infirmary gave her only a few pills and sent her back. Hours later, before she could be transferred to a hospital, she passed away.
The NCRI Women’s Committee stressed that these deaths highlight the urgent need for international intervention to secure the release of sick female prisoners, ensure medical access, and dispatch an independent fact-finding mission to women’s prisons, particularly the notorious Qarchak Prison.
