According to published reports, Kaveh Ahmadzadeh, a political activist and former prisoner who was serving a new sentence in Bukan Central Prison, died in recent days due to cardiac arrest.
Sources state that despite the clear deterioration of his condition, prison officials failed to transfer him to medical facilities in time, and this negligence ultimately led to his death.
Ahmadzadeh had spent nearly a decade in prison over the years because of his political activities, repeatedly being denied medical care and basic rights. His death once again highlights the dire conditions in Iranian prisons and the systemic disregard for prisoners’ health—an ongoing threat that continues to claim lives.
In recent months, other prisoners such as Nader Jameh-Shourani, Amir (Abd-alnoor) Nisi from Ahvaz, Bahman Karmaloo, Sahar Shahbazian, Soudabeh Asadi, and Jamlieh Rashidi have also died in custody due to medical negligence or delayed access to treatment.
Amnesty International previously warned in an investigative report that Iranian authorities, by deliberately denying essential medical care to ill prisoners, are committing a “shocking violation of the right to life.”
