Human rights sources report that Ehsan Afrashteh, an inmate held in Ward 7, Hall 12 of Evin Prison, was transferred early on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, for the implementation of his death sentence.

According to Mehdi Mahmoudian, a civil activist and former political prisoner, Afrashteh had previously lived in Turkey, where he realized he had been manipulated by Israeli intelligence services. Following mediation by his father and contact with Iranian security authorities, he voluntarily returned to Iran, yet was ultimately sentenced to death by the judiciary.

Mahmoudian added that after Afrashteh’s transfer for execution, political and security prisoners in Hall 12 protested by blocking the ward’s doors to prevent his removal, leading to heightened tension and unrest inside Evin Prison.

The incident has drawn widespread attention on social media, with civil rights activists describing it as another sign of the intensifying wave of executions and repression in Iran.
