Yilmaz Mehralibeyglu, a lawyer and human rights activist from Jolfa, has been charged with “spreading public anxiety” after protesting the death sentence issued against Ehsan Faridi, a student and political prisoner.
According to information obtained from sources close to his family, he appeared before the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office on Azar 16 following a summons and was interrogated at Branch One of the prosecutor’s office.
Family members report that the basis of the new charge is his publication of a petition protesting the death sentence against Ehsan Faridi—an entirely peaceful act and part of the fundamental right to freedom of expression. This case reflects the continued pressure and intimidation of lawyers and human rights defenders for speaking out in defense of the right to life and justice.
