In the early hours of Sunday, October 6, 2025, forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) opened direct fire on a group of kolbars (border porters) at the Sardav border in Baneh, resulting in the death of Kurdish porter Mehdi Sharifi.
Mehdi Sharifi, a married father of one, was transferred to Baneh hospital after being shot. However, the IRGC has so far refused to return his body to his family.
This incident represents yet another example of border violence and repression against kolbars and the Kurdish population in Iran, which has repeatedly led to the death and injury of innocent civilians in recent years.
