At the United Nations Human Rights Council session, Sahar Sanaei of the International Association for Women’s Equality stated that the situation in Iran’s prisons shows that depriving prisoners of medical care is neither accidental nor due to resource shortages. Instead, it is deliberately used as a tool for pressure, torture, and ultimately the physical elimination of detainees, especially political prisoners. She emphasized that in this process, judicial and security authorities—not doctors—are the main decision-makers regarding the transfer of prisoners to hospitals. This deliberate interference has turned treatable illnesses into painful deaths, and in recent months, several prisoners have lost their lives due to lack of medical care.
