Critical Health Condition of Political Prisoner Akbar Bagheri in Ghezel Hesar Prison
Political prisoner Akbar Bagheri has been deprived of medical care in Ghezel Hesar Prison for the past two months and his health has seriously deteriorated.
He suffers from severe gastrointestinal and liver diseases, hemorrhoids, and blood disorders, and urgently requires a colonoscopy and ultrasound. Despite this, prison authorities have obstructed his transfer to a hospital, putting his life at grave risk.
Akbar was arrested in November 2024 and, following an unfair trial in May 2025, was sentenced to three years and seven months in prison. The charges against him—“assembly and collusion”—were brought without clear evidence and while he was denied access to legal representation.
Human rights activists are demanding Akbar’s immediate transfer to hospital and an end to the systematic violations of political prisoners’ rights in Iran.
