Political Prisoner Mahmoud Mehrabi Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison
Mahan Mehrabi announced on social media that his brother, Mahmoud Mehrabi, a political prisoner, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison with the maximum penalty enforced. The verdict includes:
• 5 years for “inciting and provoking people to war and bloodshed”
• 1 year for “propaganda against the state”
• 3 years for “ineffective incitement of security forces”
• 1 year for “insulting the Supreme Leader and Khomeini”
Additional punishments:
• 2 years of exile from his hometown
• 2 years ban on online activity
• 2 years travel ban
• 2 years denial of passport issuance
Mahmoud also faces charges of “insulting religious sanctities” — accusations widely criticized as an attempt to silence dissent and suppress freedom of expression.
Detained since February 1, 2023, Mahmoud has spent 922 days in prison without a single day of furlough. Despite torture, threats, and pressure, he has refused to express remorse.
A year ago, he was sentenced to death, but public outcry and solidarity overturned that ruling. Currently, the maximum sentence — five years in prison — is enforceable.
“Be his voice,” Mahan wrote.
